If you have not yet been to the Common Ground Country Fair hosted by the Maine Organic Farmers and Gardeners Association (MOFGA), you'll want to check it out this year.
In the Energy and Shelter area of the Fair, MOFGA provides a forum for exhibitors to educate, demonstrate and showcase new products and technologies that aid in the conservation of resources through more efficient use of materials, whether new or recycled.
The area encourages the use of traditional technologies in more environmentally sound ways, and demonstrates how a product can be reused, recycled or easily and safely dismantled and disposed of.
Green Energy Maine publisher Kay Mann will be speaking in the Energy Speakers' Tent on two occasions during the 2014 fair. The first will be on Friday, September 19 at 2:00 pm, on the subject of "How You Can Buy Green Electric Power". The second will be on Sunday, September 21 at 4:00 pm, and the subject will be "Sustainable Home Heating Options".
Whether a veteran fair-goer or a neophyte, we all ask that you make every effort to reduce your carbon footprint from traveling to Unity by either carpooling or using one of the alternative options provided by the fair: park and bike or park and ride the train. You can even get a $2 discount off your admission by using these ways to get there. The alternative is a tragic irony: to keep your vehicle idling in traffic for an hour in order to go hear about all the ways we can green our lifestyles.
